Our 21st Century world is dominated by science and technology. Their efficacy in understanding the world, curing disease, and providing social and living improvements is well-known. Science and technology are ubiquitious and challenge our faith almost daily. For example:

  • Is stem cell research ethical?
  • Is cloning moral?
  • What should our faith response be to care for the environment?
  • Did God create the universe or is the universe self-generating?
  • Is the bodily Resurrection just a myth?
  • What should be our faith response to weapons of mass destruction?
  • Is God creating anew in the Internet?

Scholars of the interaction of science and faith have addressed these issues in academic conferences and publications. But how can ordinary believers cope with the faith challenges presented by science and technology? How can they reconcile the use and abuse of science with God's will? is a ministry designed to provide ordinary folks the opportunity to understand 21st century science and technology and the ethical issues raised by them. And most importantly it allows them to engage in fruitful discussion of the issues. Such discussions often lead participants to a deeper understanding of their faith and a rich appreciation of what God is doing for us through science and technology. The underlying belief of these discussions is that science and faith are two sides of God's reality and that if properly engaged can mutually enrich each other. Science and technology are gifts of God; our faith is our call to use these gifts wisely. Faith challenges science to face the moral dilemmas it invokes. Science challenges faith to renew traditions within new understandings of creation.

is available to your faith community or organization to conduct one or more discussions on topics of your choice. Currently designed classes are listed at notes.

Unlike a typical lecture where the presenter speaks and subsequently entertains questions, the sessions are interactive dialogs for ages 14 to 114. The facilitor presents the science and issues in a short introduction and then the group is encouraged to raise questions and concerns for discussion. Confirmands as well as adults will find these discussions worthwhile. To arrange session times and topics at your faith community or organization: Contact Rev. John A.
